Alkaline diet is a dietary adjustments to balance the pH in the body. Alkaline diet is also known as the 'pH diet' or 'acid-alkaline diet' has been practiced by several celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst, Anna Faris, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The basic theory of an alkaline diet is that the body is an easy target for various diseases if acidic. Therefore, we need foods that are alkaline (base), to maintain the pH balance in the blood.

This diet works by balancing the pH to the optimal level and then build cells and tissues, so that the body becomes healthier. If a person on this diet, it means that she also detoxifies (removing toxins from the body), so that the body's cells can function well.

Alkaline diet has several benefits, such as increased energy, improved digestion, weight loss, and reduce pain. Not only that, high blood pressure and blood sugar can also be solved by this method.

With an alkaline diet, you will gain a better immunity, and slower aging process. In addition, alkaline foods are believed to make the teeth and gums be healthier. However, all these benefits have not been scientifically proven. However, do not go overboard in doing this diet. Acidic foods are still needed, such as certain fats and oils contain essential fatty acids. Because it can keep the immune system and maintain the body's cells. Dr. Zainab suggests, good composition is 80:20, 80% for alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods.

What foods are acidic, and alkaline? Actually there is a misconception in general public. Currently, foods that taste acidic, are considered to establish the effects of acidic in the body. Acidic foods add hydrogen ions to the body, so the body more acidic. On the contrary, alkaline foods will eliminate hydrogen ions so as to reduce acidity of the body.

Acidic foods: Corn, lentils, olives, potatoes, animal fats, vegetable oils, oat, rice, wheat, beef, chicken, lamb, oysters, lobster, milk, butter, cheese, ice cream, margarine, sugar, bottled salad dressings, artificial sweeteners , and mature vinegar.  

Alkaline foods: Broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, tomatoes, asparagus, spinach, coconut, apples, apricots, avocados, bananas, blackberries, grapefruit, grapes, lemons, limes, muskmelon, orange, almond, white water , herbal tea and green tea, olive oil, flax seed oil, balsamic vinegar, molasses, spices, maple syrup and organic honey.
